The 1000 Islands Snowmobile Club has designated Saturday September 16th as the day they will recognize 25 years as a snowmobile trail maintenance organization here in Jefferson County. The club will celebrate this occasion along with recognizing and thanking our founding members as well as the 175 land owners for allowing our trails to exist on their properties. Use of our trail system is a privilege and not a right and respect for these land owners is critical in keeping this 80 + mile Class A snowmobile trail system intact.
Present and former members of the club as well as the land owners are invited to attend this event which runs from noon to 4 pm but they must RSVP to ensure adequate food supplies. The celebration will be held at the pavilion at Cerow Park on Graves Street in the Village of Clayton.
Mike Davis BBQ will supply the food and O’Briens Restaurant will provide the beverages. Music will be under the direction of Terry Jones and his ever popular MINUS MIKE band. The event is being held rain or shine.
Invitations have gone out to the affected land owners but if you are a land owner and did not receive and invitation, please consider this an invitation.
For those landowners that cannot attend our appreciation event we thank you for allowing our club to use your lands for our snowmobile trails. Without your generosity, patience and understanding there would not be a trail system here in Jefferson County.
The club must obtain yearly permission from our land owners, brush hog and clear the over 80 miles of trails that extend from Chaumont into the trails of St. Lawrence County. To ensure the safety of the trails and the riders over 1000 wooden stakes and over 500 safety signs must be properly installed each season and at the conclusion of the winter season, they must all be picked back up, inventoried and stored for the following season. Throughout the winter our three groomers are utilized to provide safe trails when the temperature and snow conditions allow.
The club is a 501C3 organization and conducts two snowmobile safety classes each winter, free of charge for anyone over the age of ten. Also we support the Clayton and Cape Vincent Chambers of Commerce, TIERS, Jefferson County Farm Bureau and the New York State Snowmobile Association ( NYSSA).
The club meets the first Thursday of every month from September thru May and always welcomes new members to our all-volunteer organization. Anyone desiring to join the club can do so by accessing the NYSSA web site and select Jefferson County and the 1000 Islands Snowmobile Club.
Eligible past and current club members as well as land owners wishing to attend this event must either text or call Charlie Albertson ( Club Secretary ) at 845 235 6942 or email to cwasr@twc.com before September 1 st. This is necessary to ensure adequate food supplies.
